Guide to Ardmore, Pennsylvania

Known as the “The Main Street of the Main Line,” Ardmore is the largest and most diverse town on Philadelphia’s Main Line stretch of suburbs. Ardmore offers residents an urban-suburban mix feel and features some of the area’s best shopping, dining, and nightlife, making it one of the best places to live in Pennsylvania.

Public Transportation in Northern Liberties

Ardmore is accessible by Amtrak and SEPTA trains.

SEPTA Regional Rail: Ardmore station, Paoli/Thorndale Line
SEPTA Norristown High-Speed Line: Ardmore Avenue station

The Route 44 bus also runs from Center City to Haverford Road and Montgomery Avenue. Runs 24/7 through Northern Liberties at Spring Garden and Girard stations.

Shopping

Ardmore is home to one of the earliest official shopping centers in the United States: Suburban Square. It is credited with being first of its kind of shopping center to include a true department store when Strawbridge & Clothier opened in 1930.

Today, this upscale, pedestrian-friendly outdoor shopping center serves as one of the Main Line’s premier retail and dining destinations. Its outdoor courtyard full of colorful Adirondack chairs allows visitors to socialize and enjoy the green spaces.

Some of the many stores and boutiques in Suburban Square include J.Crew, Anne Taylor, Sephora, Apple, Rolex, Gap, Govberg Jewelers, Kule and more.

Ardmore Farmers Market is also located within Suburban Square and features international cheese, artisan bread and other packaged and prepared goods.

Food & Drinks

The mainline is home to some of the best restaurants and bars in the Philadelphia area, and many of them are in Ardmore. Here is a list of a few of our favorites:

TIRED HANDS BREW CAFE

This award-winning brick-walled cafe-brewery offers flavorful yet simple beers. The brewery sources all of its raw ingredients locally. Fun fact: Despite its limited distribution network in Pennsylvania, Tried Hands was the top 10 most Googled beers of 2016.
