Pumpkin spice is in the air and all the trees change to brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow, standing out like party decorations against the gray of the city. It is a magical time of year, and there is always so much to do. This is thanks to one of the many benefits of living in New York City. Don’t let the cooling weather keep you inside!
Manhattan may seem like its own separate island and each neighborhood its own village. The Upper East Side is worlds away from Greenwich Village and Chelsea has a completely different feel than Midtown East – but venture a little outside the city and you might be surprised what you’ll find. There are 11 different apple orchards convenient to New York City. Take a trip and you’ll find apple cider and donuts as well as the opportunity to pick your own apples. It takes less than two hours to reach the orchards and many you can get to using public transportation.
Having an apartment in NYC means that everything is at your door, and that includes pumpkins! Several of the orchards mentioned above also have pumpkin patches where you can pick your own. Whether you are making pumpkin pie or selecting the perfect pumpkin for a jack o’lantern, you are sure to get in the spirit of the season wandering through a pumpkin patch. Plus, some of these farms have wine to enjoy at the end of your day as well as corn mazes and hayrides.
Autumn in New York City would not be complete without the NYC Halloween Parade. Held every year in Greenwich Village, the atmosphere is nothing short of a party as parade participants traverse the city in outlandish costumes. There are also puppets, dancers and more than 50 bands, ensuring there is something for everyone. Just remember to come dressed in a costume so you can join in the fun!
Round out your New York City fall experience with a stroll through Central Park. You can stroll through one of the many paths that wind through Central Park, you will enjoy a riot of color, making it one of the quintessential autumn activities in New York. The entire park comes alive with the vibrant colors of fall foliage.
