Who doesn’t love the autumnal season in New York City? There are so many spooky and harvest-themed festivals to enjoy. Here are nine picks to get you in the fall mood.

1. Celebrate the Great Pumpkins at the Greenbelt Festival

On Saturday, October 5, noon until 4:00 p.m., come out to Willowbrook Park, Staten Island. Immerse yourself in fall at the Greenbelt Pumpkin Festival. At this annual fest, the coolest pumpkins get the full recognition that is their due.

The Staten Island Native Plant Society will be here to talk about how to plant for a thriving ecosystem.

Admission is free for the education and fun — for little and big kids alike.

2-3. Two Chances to Meander Along the Waterfront

Take your pick of two Saturdays: October 12 or October 19, at 2 until 3:30 p.m.

Meet at the 103rd Street Footbridge in Randall’s Island Park in Manhattan.

In two free, open-to-the-public fall walks, you can amble along waterfront paths and woody trails to see the greatest fall NYC vistas on Randall’s Island.

Find more information about the event, plus a map, right here.

4. Press It and Husk It at the Queens Fall Festival

On Saturday, October 12, go to Rufus King Park. You’ll be delighted to find free entrance at the King Manor Museum to the Fall Festival, from noon to 4 p.m.

Kids will learn to make corn husk dolls and press apple cider. There are games and history attractions, too.

You can even pick up tips for community gardening, and take home something special from the Ethnobotany Project NYC seed library.

5. Jump Into the Fall Festival at Victory Field

On Saturday, October 12, noon to 3:00 p.m., it’s another sweet event in Queens. The Fall Festival at Victory Field, in Forest Park, delights and engages people of all ages.

There are games and crafts, entertainers, and, of course, a plethora of pumpkins.

It’s free and open to the public.

6-8. Get Haunted in the Bronx

On Friday, October 25, from 7 to 9 p.m., come to the Haunted House at the Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center. Folks of all ages are welcome to visit the house’s many rooms and be scared out of their wits for free.

Too much for the little ones? No worries. On Monday, October 28, the Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center presents Toddler Halloween, at 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Bring your kids, 5 and under, for games, arts and crafts…all free!

And on Halloween itself (October 31, 4 to 6 p.m.), the Center will host its Pumpkin Party for kids 11 and under and their families. Carnival games and pumpkin basket giveaways are the big draws here, and the event is free.

9. Enjoy a Halloween Party at Staten Island

On Sunday, October 27, 2019, come out to a Halloween Fall Festival at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex at 625 Father Capodanno Boulevard, Ocean Breeze Park, Staten Island.

Kids and grownups are invited to enjoy a day of Halloween hijinks and live entertainment. The fun lasts from 11 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. And, yes, admission is free!
