In many ways, Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States, which may be why this city has some of the most spectacular Fourth of July events in the whole country (and why Philadelphia rentals are so special). If you want to give this holiday the due it deserves, then here are the best Independence Day events for you celebrate this year.

The Fourth of July Parade

What’s the Fourth of July without a parade to kick off the festivities? This huge parade proceeds through Historic Downtown Philadelphia near Old City apartments, and includes parade attendees like Miss Philadelphia, various veterans groups, dance teams, musical acts and plenty of impressive parade floats. The parade kicks off at 5th Street and Chestnut Street at 11 a.m.

The Party on the Parkway

The Benjamin Franklin Parkway hosts one of the biggest parties in all of the country. Here you’ll find dance performances, musical acts, children’s activities and a huge array of different and delicious food. This event is known for the huge range of different cultures converging from across the city to celebrate the Fourth in one place. The Party on the Parkway goes from noon until 10 p.m.

Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert

Philly hosts a huge Fourth of July concert every year, and previous years have featured hometown favorites like The Roots playing for residents and visitors alike. The Wawa Welcome America Concert is focusing on a family-friendly lineup with famous acts like the O’Jays, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, the POPS symphony orchestra and many more.

Grand Finale Fireworks Show

The Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts the Grand Finale Fireworks show in Philadelphia every year to celebrate America’s independence. There are plenty of great spots to watch this fireworks spectacular:

  • Paine’s Park – This is a recreation space within the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and is located right next to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which means you’ll have a great view.
  • Benjamin Franklin Parkway – If you can nab a spot between Logan Circle and Eakins Oval on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, you’re basically guaranteed to see all the action.
  • Lemon Hill – Located in Fairmount Park, this spot hosts a beautiful mansion and plenty of space to set up your lawn chair from this elevated locale.
  • Schuylkill River Park – People love setting up a spot along the river’s banks. This area is also very convenient for people who live in Center City and areas like Walnut Street.
