St Patricks Day in Philly

Whether you’re Irish or not, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The holiday, which honors the beloved patron Saint Patrick, began centuries ago, and today is still celebrated throughout the world. When you live in Philly there are plenty of options to choose from when celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.

With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, there may be no better place to celebrate this great day than in downtown Philadelphia. The “City of Brotherly Love” certainly knows how to have fun. Here’s a list of some of the great Saint Patrick Day celebrations you don’t want to miss.

Annual Saint Patty’s Day Parade

As one of the oldest parades in the country, Philly’s St. Patty’s Day Parade is a must-see. The parade includes numerous bands, dance groups and floats, many decked out in plenty of green. It heads down Broad Street towards City Hall, and then down Market Street and Penn’s Landing. Be sure to get there early to get a good spot.

McGillin’s Olde Ale Haus

This well-known bar has been in operation for more than 150 years and knows how to celebrate St. Patty’s Day. Doors open at 10 a.m., and there will be plenty of green beer and cheers to go around.

Fergie’s Pub

Fergie’s Pub will be celebrating St. Patty’s Day all weekend long. With live band karaoke happening Friday night and authentic Irish music on Saturday and Sunday nights, not to mention traditional Irish dishes, what’s not to love?

Fado Irish Pub

Fado Irish Pub in City Central is getting ready for its annual St. Patty’s Day party. Doors open early, and patrons will be treated to live music throughout the day. There will be plenty of beer and whiskey on hand to keep the party going.

The Erin Express

If you’re looking for more excitement than just one bar can offer, the Erin Express is for you. This St. Patty’s Day event transports patrons between 15 different bars, including Cavanaugh’s Restaurant & Sports Bar, Bonner’s Irish Pub, and Westy’s Tavern and Restaurant. A new bus arrives every 15 minutes. Transportation and admission to bars are both free of charge.
