[shared_counts]It’s August in Philly, which represents an impending end to a summer lull for some sports fans. Now’s the time to get tickets to the outstanding sporting events that take place this fall. From football and basketball to hockey and more, Philadelphia has something for every sports fan to enjoy. And, if you happen to live in one of the Old City apartments in Philly, all of these events are less than 6 miles away.
Cheer on the Temple Owls as they battle the Army Black Knights during the season opener at the Lincoln Financial Field on September 2, 2016. Of course, if you can’t make it to this game, there are plenty of football games throughout fall 2016, so you’ll get your chance to wear cherry and white while supporting the Owls as they work to capture the division title.
As a football fan, you probably already know that the season opener for the Philadelphia Eagles sees the team play against the Cleveland Browns in mid-September. You can also get tickets for games later in the season, when the Eagles will play the Washington Redskins, the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys.
Hockey fans will have to wait until late October for the first home game of the season against the Anaheim Ducks, but there’s still three preseason home games to enjoy. When you visit Broad Street to watch Claude Giroux lead his team to victory, plan to eat and enjoy downtime at the DraftKings Fantasy Sports Lounge, P.J. Whelihan or the members-only Cadillac Grille before the game.
Celebrate the return of Philadelphia’s NBA team as the 76ers play the OKC Thunder in their first game this season. If you want to see them play against the Celtics or the Lakers, you’ll have to wait until early December, but it will be so worth it.
Watch Olympic champions face off during one of the largest rowing competitions in the world. Located at Fairmont Park, the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta is a free event that attracts over 25,000 spectators and was recently expanded to two days. No matter what day you attend, be sure to come hungry and sample food from one of the dozens of vendors present at the event.
