Don’t Miss These Incredible Exhibitions Near Rittenhouse Square and Old City Apartments

One of the greatest things about living in Philadelphia is being close to an incredible collection of world-class cultural institutions. The city’s plentiful and diverse museums, galleries, academies and institutions keep your weekends packed, your imagination piqued and your intellectual side happily engaged, all without venturing far from Philadelphia apartments. And 2016 promises its own enticing array of options, with dozens of awesome exhibitions scheduled for the remainder of 2016.

Here are a couple of highlights:

Creative Africa at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Creative Africa comprises five special exhibitions in one location — the Ruth and Raymond G. Perelman Building at the Philadelphia Museum of Art — from now through September 25, 2016. Spanning centuries of arts, crafts, sculpture, architecture and fashion, Creative Africa will give you a new perspective on the creative and artistic heritage of a fascinating and diverse continent.

Look Again: Contemporary Perspectives on Africa Art showcases items from the renowned African collection of the Penn Museum. Most prominent are items from West and Central Africa from the 16th through 20th centuries, rendered in materials from ivory to gold. See six African cities captured through the lenses of the continent’s most acclaimed photographers, whose works are on display at the Three Photographers/Six Cities exhibit. Contemporary fashion and traditional textiles alike are featured through two complementary exhibits: Vlisco: African Fashion on a Global Stage; and Threads of Tradition, which displays centuries-old patterns of great cultural significance. And finally, learn about the award-winning sustainable building designs of a Burkina Faso-born architect through the engaging exhibit, The Architecture of Francis Kere: Building for Community.

The Ruth and Raymond G. Perelman Building is opposite the main building of the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 2525 Pennsylvania Avenue, just 1.3 miles from Rittenhouse Square Apartments.

Headed to the White House at the National Constitution Center

Concurrent with the 2016 presidential election, Headed to the White House will be at the National Constitution Center through November 8, 2016. In addition to educational exhibits about historic presidential elections and the intricacies of the democratic process, this engaging exhibition lets you experience for yourself the process of becoming the next president of the United States. Throw your (virtual) hat into the ring, hit the campaign trail, create your own campaign commercials and see if you have what it takes to reach the White House. You’ll practice your presidential handshake, take the oath of office and go home with a souvenir photo of yourself behind the desk in the Oval Office.

The National Constitution Center is at 525 Arch Street, and just a 10-minute walk from Old City Apartments.
