Philly Tech Week debuted in 2010 and has been going strong ever since. This year’s conference opens on April 27 and runs through May 5, featuring seven different tracks that cover a range of topics across a broad spectrum of programming, from the future of jobs and the tech economy to topics in healthcare and big data to the effects of tech on government, politics and citizenship.
Once upon a time, the West Coast in general, and Silicon Valley and San Francisco in particular, were considered the place to be if you worked in the tech sector (or wanted to). From access to industry contacts, financing and networking opportunities to a vibrant and accessible urban core, the booming tech sector is no longer isolated to cities like San Francisco and Seattle. In fact, according to job growth statistics, the city of Philadelphia now ranks second behind the Bay Area in tech sector job growth. Philly’s tech scene may not garner as many headlines as its neighbors to the north (yet), but tech sector job growth as a percentage of new jobs is actually higher in Philadelphia than in Boston, D.C. and NYC. Philly Tech Week 2018 organizes a week-long schedule of diverse programming across technology, science and design to highlight the city’s vibrant and innovative startup and tech scene.
