This year, Sail Philadelphia will bring almost one dozen Tall Ships to Penn’s Landing for a Tall Ship Waterfront Festival that you won’t want to miss.
From May 24th through May 28th, 2018, Philadelphia will welcome these historic and restored ships to the Delaware River Waterfront from ports all over the world including Bermuda, Newport, New York City, and Portugal. Here’s how can you enjoy Sail Philadelphia 2018.
For landlubbers, you can take in Sail Philadelphia 2018 in a number of ways.
First, head to Penn’s Landing. Here, you’ll find all sorts of activities during the Waterfront Festival.

The Parade of Sail will be one of the first events to kick off Sail Philadelphia this year. Watch as the Tall Ships and other small craft make their way down the Delaware River, it’s truly an incredible spectacle.
This event is free and open to the public.
Once the festivities are officially opened, there are events and activities going on a the Waterfront Festival every day.
The Independence Seaport Museum will be offering hands on activities perfect for the whole family such as creating signal flags and learning about the science of waves. There will also be maritime themed movie screenings each afternoon.
If you’re looking for free activities, then you won’t want to miss the US Air Force Band Concert on Saturday, May 26th starting at 7:30pm. Directly after the concert, stick around because there will be a fireworks display right over the Delaware River

If you’re itching to get on some of these Tall Ships and out on the water, there are plenty of options for you too with tours and cruises.
Many of the Tall Ships offer self guided tours.With tickets, you’ll be able to wander the decks, inspect the rigging, and even chat with a few of the sailors on board. You’ll be able to learn how many of these ships, and their kind, were used throughout history.
Five of the ships offer tickets for Sail Away Cruises. Each ship will offer multiple sailings throughout the day, starting around 11am and running through mid-afternoon. Each of these cruises are approximately 90 minutes long.
For something truly special, these Tall Ships will also be offering a 120 minute Twilight Cruise. In addition to being able to see the sun start to sink over Philadelphia and the stars begin to shine, the Twilight Cruises offer a complimentary glass of champagne and snacks.
